Portland and Multnomah Falls
We asked Brendan, who spend some time in Portland what the 'must do' things are for a short stop over. We followed his recommendations and did not regret doing so.
The Portland Saturday Market |
We drove straight into Portland and within minutes of arriving we found ourselves, purely by chance, in the middle of the famous Portland Saturday Market . We still had no accommodation but it was still early so we decided to park the car and join the fun. The market was huge and included craft stalls, great food, live music, street artists and much much more. After a while I left Brenda to enjoy the market while I walked further into the city centre to check out hotels. We got back together for lunch and tried all available WiFi links to check out hotels.
A view from Pioneer Courthouse Square - by night - |
Finally we booked our hotel. We stayed on 6th Avenue 50 meters from Pioneer Courthouse Square, a real hive of activity. The first day there the square was completely dedicated to a food fair. That night they cleared out everything (see image of one of the fabulous trucks used to remove the equipment. The next morning the square was set up an march in support of AIDs victims. That evening their equipment was being packed up. On the third day we went to the square for breakfast and found live music and a farmers market which included stalls selling all kinds of tasty fresh foods.
The fabulous Mother's Bistro and Bar |
Brendan also recommended a visit to Mother's Bistro and Bar. We had a great dinner there the first night and decided to try it for brunch on day 2. We were not disappointed. This place is a must visit if you are in Portland but expect to wait for a table (not too long and worth the wait)
Brenda looks out over Portland from our table at the Portland City Grill |
We tried out the Portland City Grill (on the 30th floor). This is a massive bar and restaurant on the 30th floor of the tallest building in Portland. From our window table we had amazing views of the city. Unfortunately our photos are not great because of the internal lighting and reflections from the windows.
From the top of Multnomah Falls |
Finally, we drove out to Multnomah Falls before going North again. We climbed the steep path to the top of the falls and got some nice photos along the way. Multnomah Fall is a must see also.

I totally disagree with you saying the photo is not great because of the reflections on the window... If anything, the reflections add an extra layer to the narrative behind the picture. It gives it more context. I think it's much better that I can see Brenda staring out and enjoying the view too :)
ReplyDeleteI took loads of shots from the restaurant and, as I said, most are very poor because of the distortion caused by the reflections and the window. However, I do agree with you about the one you refer to. That effect was deliberate. Trying to make the most of the difficult environment, from a photo opportunity point of view. The restaurant, food, atmosphere etc was amazing.
ReplyDeleteI think it's cool too! :)
